Global Language

    What is the most popular language in the world? Chinese is the most people use in the world but English is most popular language in the world. Why has this situation? People who are speaking Chinese most centralize in Asia. However, people who are speaking English spread all over the world. English already become a kind of link language (by Nawal). Do you think English will become pidgin language or Chinglish? I don’t worry about these problems. I will write two reasons at following paragraph.


    Some people will worry about English become pidgin language (By Dan). In my opinion, I don’t worry about English become pidgin language because English is from a lot of language. Some people also worry about too many types of English in the world, such as British English, America English, Philippines English, and Australia English. What is most regular English? In my brief, we do not worry about this thing. What is language purpose for? Language is purpose for communicate. Therefore, we do not worry about which language is regular English.

    Some people also worries about many countries have local English, such as Japanese English, Taiwanese English, and Korean English. For example, what is OL? OL is means lady who is working in the office. You will hear Japanese use OL in conversation to describe “Office Lady”. Another example, Do you know what is morning call? Morning call is means please give me a phone call to wake me up in the morning. Taiwanese usually use morning call in the hotel or conversation. Do they are regular English? They don’t. We do not use those words on regular writing. There are many ways can learn right grammar, such as study Textbooks and take TOEFL test.

    In conclusion, I agree English is global English. In my case, I gave up learning English when I was a child. However, time is change; I came to America to learn English. Now, I using English laptop and watching English movies. I am changing my habit and life style. Therefore, I think English is a link language and agree English is global language.

The Devil Wears Prada by David Frankel

    What is your dream job? Runway magazine is a fashionable and cool company where many young girls want to work in there. Miranda (Meryl Streep) is an editor in chief with Runway magazine. Andy (Hathaway) is an intelligent freshman work for Miranda. There are two things that this movie works: Miranda’s personality and Andy’s life.


    First of all, Miranda’s personality is run through this movie. Her personalities show the human crafty and ruthless. She looks like a mirror to reflect some people in real life. Second, the movie is following Andy’s life. She didn’t know any fashion style when she started into Runway magazine. Miranda gives Andy some difficult jobs and makes her know what fashion is. Andy sacrifices her friendship, family time, and boy friend for job because she wants to proof that she can do it.

    The story end, Andy gained Miranda’s trust and went to French to attend Paris fashion show. She was delighted everything in Paris at the beginning but she disappointed when Miranda made some chose at the end. Andy thought about what is she wants life? Then, Andy left Miranda and looked for her new life.

    In brief, this movie has a great story and I really enjoy watching it. It is a mirror to show us that real life human personality. It also tell us that real situation about young people work in the big company is difficult. If young people want to promotion, maybe should sacrifice something. What is your dream job? Did you think how to make good choose to make your life and job better? If you don’t have answer yet, I would like to recommend this movie for you.

Two Cities

    The Taipei is similarly to Seattle. They are both near by the ocean and mountains. They are also business, technology, and science cities. However, there are three differences between two cities, such as weather, population, and traffic. I will describe what difference at following paragraphs.


    First, Taipei’s weather is hot and humid. People who live in this city almost have an air conditioning system in their apartments. Some big apartment or house has more than two air conditioning systems. Even in winter time the temperature usually high than 60 degree. However, the Seattle weather is cold and rainy. The average temperature also lowers than Taipei.

    Second, the population also difference. The Taipei is a capital and biggest city in Taiwan. There are more than 2.5 millions people work and live in this city. The Seattle also the biggest city in Washington State but the population is lower than Taipei. There are 700 thousands people work and live in this city. The Taipei population is 3 times of Seattle population.

    Finally, the two cities all have busy traffic. The two cities both have bus system for resident. However, there are several different traffic systems between two cities. In Seattle, people use to drive car or take bus to go outside. In Taipei, People use to ride motorcycle, take Mass Rapid Transit, and take Taiwan High Speed Rail to go out side. I just a few chance can see rider ride motorcycle on the road in Seattle. On another hand, there are a lot of people ride motorcycles on the road in Taiwan. Sometimes I feel Taipei traffic is dangerous than Seattle.

    In conclusion, the two cities have some similarly such as near by the ocean and mountains, business, technology, and science cities. However, they also have three different: weather, population, and traffic. I like live in Seattle because I don’t like hot weather and dangerous traffic.

Moon Festival

    Have you ever eaten moon cake? I eat moon cake on Moon Festival every year. The Moon Festival is a special holiday in Taiwan. The Moon is a symbol that we should go home to see our family. In this holiday, we have three special things to do: eat moon cakes, eat a big dinner, and enjoy the full moon.

    First, we eat moon cakes at this holiday. The moon cake looks like a small doughnut. It has many flavors to choose. If you like eat salty food, you can choose meat moon cake. If you like eat sweet food, you can choose red bean moon cake, green bean moon cake, and chocolate moon cake. It is a traditional Chinese dessert.

    Second, we cook a big dinner and sit at a big circle table at night. Children usually help mother to prepare several dishes for family. The men drink traditional wine with neighbors and friends. At the dinner time, we make a circle and eat this big dinner with our family. Why we make a circle? The circle is a symbol that likes a full moon.

    Finally, we will go to the park and sit on the bench to enjoy the full moon. The full moon has a special means in Taiwan. It is a symbol of family. Every time I see the moon, I think of my family. For example, I worked in Taipei city and my family live in Tainan city. On Moon Festival, I had a holiday and went home to meet my family. We usually talk and share our mind with our family. It is also a good time to be concerned our family and friends.

    In brief, we eat moon cakes, have a big dinner, and enjoy the full moon in this important traditional Moon festival. I like Moon festival because I like to have a big dinner and enjoy the full moon with my family.

Quad

    Quadrangle is a square that is surrounded by buildings. My favorite place at UW is Quad. Four buildings surround it, so the Quad’s shape looks like a rectangle. There are three reasons why I like it. First, it has a big square. The vast space makes me feel unconstrained. Second, many students do activities here, such as playing football, Frisbee, and juggle. I like to see students do activities here because it makes me feel energetic. Finally, I like to enjoy the sunshine. In sunny day, I like to sit on the lawn with friends and talk to each other. Therefore, Quad is my favorite at UW. It gives students a big place to rest and do activities with friends.
